The Tower of Babel can reach heaven, if only everyone can understand one another.
Noam Chomsky is the renown expert of linguistics, at least in America. He is also a philosopher, cognitive scientist, historian, social critic, and political activist. I own several of his books I swear I'll read one day. He is featured on Big Think and has a full length documentary. You can find a lot more good stuff from him out there.
We think in language, but we are not born with it. If I could I would learn many languages like polyglot savant Daniel Tammet.
Which ones? Probably those of the world's most spoken by native speakers first, followed by at least one from every region and a few that are just interesting.
