Hapkido and tae kwon do are two Korean martial arts. To grossly oversimplify, hapkido is a "soft" form and tae kwon do is a "hard" form. Soft forms work with their opponent's energy. Whatever you do, I will help you do even more to your disadvantage and my advantage. It expends relatively little energy compared to the energy the opponent must expend to regain balance, get back up, out of a choke hold or joint lock, etc.
Hard forms work directly against their opponent's energy. Whatever you do, I will try to stop you, and then make you suffer for it. It expends a tremendous amount of energy and can do considerable damage.
These are not entirely accurate descriptions and are entirely oversimplified, but they're good enough to work with.
Yin is like the soft form and yang is like the hard form.
By comparison, the Eastern religions are a soft form of martial art. They are like liquid. It is intuitive. They have the power to heal and sustain.
By comparison, animism is an even softer form. It is like gas. It is practically sub-conscious. It has the power to create.
If marginalized classes of people, such as female and black, etc, can compound unfair systemic and institutionalized disadvantages--and unbiased examination of social statics demonstrates this is definitely true--then the reverse is also true. For instance, political conservatives have an unfair systemic and institutionalized advantage. So do people of Abrahamic religions, especially Christians in the Western world. The religious right compounds these factors to give this social group a tremendous amount of unfair power. They abuse this abuse to create and keep dependent people and communities. The same compounding is true when you mix both rich and white, or any other unfairly advantaged class of person.
I used the common states of matter to represent the density and malleability. From another perspective, the Abrahamic religions are like fire, pagan religions like Earth, Eastern religions like water, and indigenous religions (animism) like wind.
With all of that in mind, I identify as approximately:
- 30% progressive-liberal, atheist, non-beliver, culturally Abrahamic
- 40% philosophically Eastern religion
- 30% pagan/Earth religion/animist
And 100% secular humanist!
Quantum mysticism is just scientific animism.
